About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Bilingual Truck Driver Recruiter who understands that success requires more than posting jobs and processing applications. This position is responsible for identifying, engaging, qualifying, and moving professional drivers through the recruiting and onboarding process from initial contact through orientation and activation.
The ideal candidate has direct experience recruiting CDL drivers, understands the differences between recruiting Owner Operators and Company Drivers, is comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, and knows how to maintain candidate momentum while meeting DOT and FMCSA onboarding requirements.
Experience recruiting for intermodal or drayage operations is strongly preferred.
This is a performance-driven recruiting role for someone who is comfortable on the phone, persistent with follow-up, able to handle rejection, and motivated by results.
What You'll Do
- Recruit qualified CDL drivers, including Owner Operators and Company Drivers.
- Conduct high-volume outbound calls, texts, and follow-up communication with new and existing driver leads.
- Respond quickly to incoming applications and inquiries.
- Conduct detailed initial recruiting conversations to determine driver qualifications, experience, equipment, availability, and fit.
- Clearly explain available driving opportunities, compensation structures, operating expectations, home-time requirements, and onboarding requirements.
- Tailor recruiting conversations based on the needs and motivations of Owner Operators versus Company Drivers.
- Maintain consistent follow-up with candidates throughout the recruiting and onboarding process.
- Move qualified drivers efficiently from initial application through document collection, qualification, drug screening, safety review, orientation, and activation.
- Use Tenstreet or similar driver recruiting and onboarding technology to manage applications, candidate status, documentation, notes, and follow-up activity.
- Review driver documentation and identify potential qualification issues early in the recruiting process.
- Work closely with Recruiting, Safety, Operations, and Onboarding teams to resolve issues and keep qualified drivers moving forward.
- Maintain accurate and detailed candidate records and recruiting notes.
- Re-engage aged leads and previously interested drivers when appropriate.
- Meet individual activity, pipeline, and driver activation goals.
- Maintain compliance with company policies and applicable DOT/FMCSA requirements throughout the recruiting process.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Professional fluency in English and Spanish, including the ability to conduct a complete recruiting conversation in either language.
- Previous professional driver recruiting experience.
- Working knowledge of CDL driver qualification and onboarding requirements.
- Familiarity with applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations related to driver recruiting and onboarding.
- Experience using Tenstreet or a comparable driver recruiting/ATS platform.
- Understanding of the differences between recruiting and onboarding Owner Operators and Company Drivers.
- Strong outbound calling and candidate follow-up skills.
- Ability to professionally handle rejection, objections, ghosting, and repeated follow-up without losing urgency or persistence.
- Ability to manage multiple candidates at different stages of the recruiting and onboarding process.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organization, documentation, and follow-through.
- Ability to work in a performance-driven environment with measurable recruiting and activation expectations.
Strongly Preferred
- Experience recruiting for intermodal or drayage transportation.
- Experience recruiting Owner Operators or Independent Contractors.
- Familiarity with ports, rail ramps, TWIC requirements, UIIA requirements, or other intermodal operating requirements.
- Knowledge of Owner Operator topics such as tractor requirements, insurance, plates, IFTA, fuel programs, settlement deductions, and contractor operating expenses.
- Experience working directly with terminal or operations leadership.
- Previous responsibility for monthly driver hire or activation targets.
- Respond to drivers quickly.
- Ask the right qualification questions early.
- Maintain consistent follow-up.
- Accurately explain the opportunity.
- Identify potential compliance or qualification issues before they become delays.
- Keep qualified drivers moving through the onboarding process.
- Build trust without making promises that cannot be supported.
- Convert qualified prospects into activated drivers.
Driver recruiting requires persistence. Drivers may not answer the first call. They may change their minds. They may be speaking with several carriers at once. Strong recruiters understand that rejection and follow-up are part of the job and remain focused on the next opportunity.
