Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a paraprofessional to assist in special education classrooms, using bilingual skills to support students with a range of disabilities in accordance with each IEP.

Duties include one-on-one tutoring, personal hygiene assistance, positioning, feeding, and helping students with daily living skills; you may accompany students to clinics or field trips and help with classroom records.

Qualifications

• Must possess valid TASN paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
• Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of college credit at a college or university accredited by the North Central Association or paraprofessional exam (Work Keys or Parapro).
• Ability to read, speak and write in English and at least one other language.

Responsibilities

• Assist in teaching students with various disabilities under the supervision of a Special Education teacher.
• Provide one-on-one tutoring and personal hygiene services; assist with daily living skills and feeding.
• Assist in positioning, equipment use (wheelchairs, tables, devices) and accompanying students to pools and medical clinics.
• Record student behavior, help maintain written reports, and support class field trips.
• Attend workshops and in-service trainings to update job skills.
