Job summary

The New Mexico Department of Health, through the Office of Oral Health, is seeking a dental assistant to support school-based prevention programs. The role involves assisting the Registered Dental Hygienist in evaluating children’s teeth, applying sealants and fluoride varnish, and maintaining health records and materials.

Ideal candidates will hold a High School Diploma or equivalent with a Dental Assisting certificate or an Associate’s Degree in Dental Health, plus CPR and OSHA certifications.

Qualifications

• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Experience reporting metrics (data surveillance) desired.
• Current CPR and OSHA certification required.
• Experience with providing oral health education to individuals and groups.

Responsibilities

• Assist Registered Dental Hygienist in evaluating children’s teeth and applying sealants/fluoride varnish.
• Prepare materials for sealants/fluoride varnish in collaboration with the hygienist.
• Schedule and confirm event appointments; maintain records and order supplies.
• Maintain dental supplies in collaboration with the hygienist following OSHA guidelines.
