Job summary

Community Human Services seeks a Peer Support Specialist for Off Main Clinic & Genesis House in Salinas, CA. The role uses lived experience to support clients with substance use and behavioral health needs, following Medi-Cal and DMC-ODS guidelines.

You will document care in the electronic health record and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, EMT/CPR/First Aid, and a valid CA driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Qualifying lived experience with substance use or mental health recovery.
• Current Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist certification preferred; if not certified at hire, complete 80‑hour CalMHSA‑approved training and obtain certification within 90 days.
• Maintains Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist certification throughout employment.
• Valid California driver's license and automobile insurance.
• CPR and First Aid certification and TB clearance.
• Ability to complete naloxone administration and overdose response training.

Responsibilities

• Provides individual and group peer support services aligned with approved care plans.
• Facilitates peer-led groups within Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist scope.
• Notifies staff and follows emergency procedures when needed.
• Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 and documents services in the EHR.
• Keeps professional boundaries and performs other duties as assigned.
