The Program Assistant is responsible for resource, volunteer development and outreach by integrating him/herself into the community and building mutually beneficial relationships with parents, faith services in the community, business, advocates and key stakeholder, i.e., schools, service providers, local and county government and other agencies. Works with the community to be leveraged and developed to better support and service the children, youth and families within the community served.
Education and Experience:
The Program Assistant is responsible for resource, volunteer development and outreach by integrating him/herself into the community and building mutually beneficial relationships with parents, faith services in the community, business, advocates and key stakeholder, i.e., schools, service providers, local and county government and other agencies. Works with the community to be leveraged and developed to better support and service the children, youth and families within the community served.
Education and Experience:
- Associates Degree with two years’ experience in development or implementation of community based services, prevention programs, or any other human service programs. Additional education and related experience are preferred, such as a bachelor’s degree in a Human Services related field, experience in the provision of prevention related programs.
- Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience as indicated on a year-for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.
- Note: Valid New Jersey driver’s license, safe driving record, and vehicle availability are required.
- Experience with marketing, fundraising, program planning, data entry and research helpful.
Salary:$40,000/per yearCHS of NJ Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, Life/LTD, PTO, 403(b)Schedule: Full-time 35hrs a week. Must be available at a minimum one evening per week, per center and one Saturday per month per center. A flexible schedule may be coordinated during special weeks or to meet program needs.
Reports to: This position reports to the Family Services Supervisor and in collaboration with the managing agency’s department is responsible for marketing, volunteering and development. The position reports on day to day basis to the center’s site director and/or supervisor.
Main Responsibility:
- Responsible for partnering with individuals, families, community partners and stakeholders to build relationships in both the Heritage South and Heritage North Family Success Centers and community.
- Works with the community to highlight strengths and identify challenges where resources need to be leveraged and developed to better support and serve its children, youth and families at both Mercer County Family Success Center.
- Responsible for problem solving and providing general guidance to help individuals, families, and communities achieve success.
- Plans and delivers center based activities alongside Family Partnership Specialists and members of the Parent Advisory Board.
- Along with program supervisor identify trainings for Parent Advisory Boards at both FSCs on DEIB topic and promoting a culture of diversity, equity and inclusivity.
- Provide ongoing support and resources to the community and families to advance DEIB initiatives.
- Must be 100% dedicated to the operation the FSC
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Organizational skills with the ability to plan, develop, implement social service programs.
- Outstanding human relations and the ability to function in a team environment.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Polish) written and spoken required.
Essential Duties:
Coordination
- Recruits’ partners and sector leaders from within the community to volunteer and matching them to internal FSC activities based on the FSCs needs.
- Reviews and implements new methods for recruiting, training, and retaining volunteer staff.
- Creates a sense of community among the families and individuals by helping them be an active part of the FSCs and community through volunteer work.
- Plans and coordinates strategies to involve parents, educators, professionals, and community leaders as volunteers at both FSCs.
- Promote and design activities that enrich cultural diversity at both Heritage North And Heritage South Family Success Centers.
Connecting
- Collaborates with families and community partners to identify the strengths, challenges and service gaps in the community.
- Develops and maintains community partnerships, for the purpose of marketing the FSC, recruiting volunteers, and collaborating on events and workshops. Assist with the development of marketing materials (flyers, newsletter, constant contact, etc.) to promote center based activities.
- Identifies opportunities to participate in community events such as health fairs, volunteer expos, parent liaison meetings, parent breakfasts, community advisory council meetings, etc.
Leadership
- Works collaboratively with coworkers and agency staff to effectively communicate and problem solve.
- Incorporates the Standards for Prevention Programs, Principles of Family Support, Protective Factors and the FSC Practice Profile into all aspects of the FSC.
- Assists with developing and maintaining FSC Advisory Council
Advocacy
- Understandsthe service delivery systems that impact families and advocate for/with families, as needed.
Engagement
- Works withFSC supervisor and family partners to develop strategies for marketing FSC, including specific workshops and services.
- Creates and maintains a clean, warm, and welcoming environment which encourages families to engage in FSC activities and services.

- Facilitates parent involvement and parent leadership at the FSC.
- Assist supervisor in identifying community resources.
- Creates a culture of inquiry so interested families and individuals share ongoing and evolving goals, needs and desired involving with the FSC.

- Ensures excellence in program implementation by analyzing assigned projects, setting goals, developing plans, and utilizing time effectively and efficiently.
- Utilizes data to guide decision- making, refine practice and improve services.
