Job summary

University of Southern California Arcadia Hospital is seeking a Patient Advocate to extend the clinical care team, identifying and resolving barriers to communication and culture. The role focuses on empowering LEP families and educating staff to enhance service behaviors and patient experiences.

Responsibilities include developing education materials, assisting with patient-centered policies, and collaborating with leadership to drive service excellence.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: High School or equivalent.
• Minimum Experience: 3-5 years in a related field, preferably in an acute care setting.
• Minimum Skills: Able to communicate in writing in both languages; demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Preferred Experience: Experience in the medical field / medical terminology.
• Preferred Skills: Bilingual – strong command of English and Chinese/Spanish language.

Responsibilities

• Identifying and resolving communication and cultural barriers using advocacy skills.
• Managing patient expectations, including educating and influencing expected service behaviors with staff and providers.
• Acting as an advocate to empower LEP patients and families to take an active role in improving their patient experience.
• Providing creative solutions to unique challenges in collaboration with leadership.
• Developing education materials, assisting with patient and family-centered policies, and making recommendations to drive service excellence.
