Job summary

WesternU Health Eye Care Institute in Pomona, CA is seeking an Optical Technician to support patient care and clinical education within the Eye Care Institute.

You will assist with spectacle frame and lens selection, fittings, ordering, verification, and dispensing, and help with contact lenses for diagnostic use. You will verify ophthalmic materials, enter measurements into the EHR, participate in quality assurance, and help train students. Bilingual English/Spanish required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Three to five years’ optometric clinical experience
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) required
• Certified optician or paraoptometric technician preferred

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care for spectacle frame and lens selection, fitting, ordering, verification, and dispensing
• Verifies accuracy of ophthalmic materials when received from the optical laboratory, assures timely notification of receipt of materials
• Orders and verifies contact lenses for diagnostic use and patient dispensing; coordinates appointment scheduling for contact lens dispensing
• Assists patients in the selection of ophthalmic materials, performs measurements and inputs necessary information into the EHR
• Assists and triages patients with ophthalmic materials and provides direct patient care for optical services
• Provides clinical education in optical services to students enrolled in the College of Optometry
• Implements business aspects of the optical service including stocking, ordering, inventory, display and billing
• Stays current in ophthalmic optics and trends in frame design
• Participates in quality assurance programs
