Job summary

ChristianaCare is seeking a casual Spanish Medical Interpreter to support patients and caregivers in a busy healthcare setting. The interpreter will provide accurate interpretation between Spanish and English during medical appointments, education, and family meetings while maintaining strict confidentiality and professional standards.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, advanced proficiency in Spanish and English, and completion of a 40-hour medical interpreter training

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required. An associate degree or college coursework in any area related to science or human services highly desired.
• Advanced-High proficiency or above in Spanish and English
• Successful completion of required language competency testing
• Minimum 40-hour medical interpreter training program
• Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, and cultural competency skills
• National certification as a Medical or Healthcare Interpreter highly desired
• Experience in a healthcare setting as a medical or healthcare interpreter, remote interpreting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and complete interpretation between Spanish and English during medical appointments, assessments, family meetings, informed consent discussions, patient education, procedures, psychiatric and social work consultations, and palliative and end-of-life conversations.
• Accurately interpret medical terminology and sensitive healthcare information while preserving the meaning and intent of the communication.
• Serve as a linguistic and cultural resource for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and professional boundaries in accordance with ChristianaCare policies and the NCIHC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
• Maintain flexibility to support on-call and emergency needs across our hospitals.
