Job summary

ChristianaCare is seeking a Casual Mandarin Medical Interpreter to support patients and caregivers across our hospital network in Delaware. The role focuses on clear, accurate interpretation between Mandarin and English during medical encounters, including appointments, family meetings, informed consent, and patient education.

You will work with physicians, nurses, social workers and other clinicians, upholding confidentiality and ethical standards while providing culturally responsive language

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or coursework in science or human services is desirable.
• Advanced-High proficiency in Mandarin and English.
• Successful completion of language competency testing.
• Minimum 40-hour medical interpreter training program.
• Strong communication, listening, interpersonal and cultural competency.
• National certification as a Medical/Healthcare Interpreter is highly desired.
• Healthcare setting experience; remote interpreting experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate interpretation between Mandarin and English during medical appointments, assessments, family meetings, informed consent discussions, patient education, procedures, psychiatric and social work consultations, and palliative/end-of-life conversations.
• Accurately interpret medical terminology and preserve meaning and intent of communication.
• Serve as linguistic and cultural resource for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Maintain confidentiality, impartiality, and professional boundaries per ChristianaCare policies and the NCIHC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
• Maintain flexibility to support on-call and emergency needs across our hospitals.
