Job summary

Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, MA seeks a Medical Interpreter to facilitate language access for patients and families. You will interpret for medical visits, translate materials, and ensure accurate documentation and coordination of interpreters across shifts and locations.

The role requires an interpreters certificate, healthcare interpreting experience, and the ability to travel to 800 Huntington Avenue as needed. Onsite work with regular schedule is expected.

Qualifications

• Healthcare interpreting experience 2–3 years preferred.
• Medical Interpreter Certificate required; NBCMI preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a mediator to enhance communication between staff and patients/family during medical care.
• Keep accurate documentation of interpretation encounters (location, duration, purpose).
• Provide coordination and staff training on telephone language interpretation services and equipment.
• Answer calls promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly, professional manner.
• Assist with appointment reminders, rescheduling, and sometimes scheduling or dispatching interpreters.
• Help LEP patients navigate the hospital, including departments and forms.
• Place outbound calls to confirm appointment dates and times.
• May be required to take on-call interpretation for emergencies at night and weekends.
• Travel to second location (800 Huntington Avenue) as needed.
