Job summary

NYLAG seeks a highly motivated, full‑time paralegal to support the removal defense project. Under attorney supervision, you will contact eligible individuals, field referrals, schedule appointments, assist with evidence and testimony for removal proceedings, track data, file affirmative applications, and provide logistics for clinics and workshops.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Fluency in Spanish, including legal terms, or another community language.
• 1–2 years immigration experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, manage multiple tasks and solve problems.
• Experience with immigrant communities of color, including LGBTQIA+, youth, and survivors of violence.
• Excellent written, oral and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Pre-screen clients for basic eligibility and collect documents.
• Screen clients for immigration relief eligibility.
• Assist clients to obtain documents and complete forms, with follow-up.
• Support attorneys with document translation and interview preparation.
• Conduct legal research and draft documents under supervision.
• Interview clients and witnesses and prepare forms and affidavits.
• Manage data entry and generate reports.
• Provide referrals to internal and external wraparound services.
