Job summary

National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP) in Chicago, IL seeks an Educator for La Jornada to create and maintain a positive educational environment, meeting cognitive and emotional needs of children. You will collaborate with Assistant Educators to provide education, health and parental involvement services for all enrolled students.

The role requires a Bachelor's in education, TESL certification eligible, and 2+ years teaching experience, with bilingual English/Spanish abilities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or Elementary Education.
Willingness to obtain TESL certification paid by NYAP.
2+ years’ experience in teaching capacity and lesson planning.
Passionate about the development and well-being of children.
Able to pass a criminal background check.
21 years of age, valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, good driving record.
Bilingual (English Spanish). Fluency in Spanish required.
Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, internet search, people management programs, smartphones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

Responsibilities

Perform all work in a manner consistent with NYAP’s mission, values, and philosophies.
Create a developmentally appropriate program for our students.
Develop weekly lesson plans and class setups to meet individual needs of children.
Assess children’s needs and development, adjusting lesson plans accordingly.
Provide guidance to Assistant Educator(s) in the classroom.
Ensure the safety of all children in the program.
Participate in on-call schedule as needed.
Assist with recruitment activities to meet program goals.
Document children’s attendance and progress per requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
