Job summary

Southern Oregon Head Start is seeking an on-site Teacher Assistant to support classroom teachers, nurture children, and help prepare them for kindergarten. The TA may lead the class in the teacher's absence, prepare materials, assist with meals, and uphold Head Start standards.

Required: high school diploma or equivalent, CDA or Step 8 in Oregon Pathways (or enrolled to complete), CPR/First Aid, and one year of experience with young children; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; CDA credential or Step 8 in Oregon Pathways required or enrollment in CDA program within 2 years of hire
• CPR/First Aid Certification, Food Handler Certification and TS Gold Inter-Rater Reliability Certification required
• One-year experience working with young children; preschool age preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; basic computer knowledge

Responsibilities

• Work directly with children individually, in small and large groups, following curriculum guidelines
• Lead the class in the teacher's absence and document observations as required
• Transport: serve as bus monitor and ensure safety of children on bus/field trips
• Daily classroom maintenance: cleaning, sanitation, upkeep of equipment
• Provide childcare for meetings as assigned
• Maintain positive, nurturing interactions with children, parents, and co-workers
• Follow safety regulations and maintain a safe work environment
