Job summary

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) seeks a Class Size Bilingual Teacher Assistant to support instructional activities in Priority Schools. Under supervision, assist in teaching and supervise students during lunch, recess, and transitions, while supporting teachers with classroom materials and technology.

The role emphasizes bilingual communication, tutoring, and handling student records, with responsibilities for safety and engaging with families as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school (or G.E.D. equivalent).
• Must possess a valid TASN (NCLB) paraprofessional license from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
• Good knowledge of proper grammar and spelling in English and at least one other language, basic math, and CPS rules/regulations.
• Ability to work with school-aged children, follow instructions, operate basic office equipment, and communicate with the public.
• Good oral and written communication skills in English and at least one other language.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes bilingual skills and assists in supervising students during lunch and playground activities.
• Provides security functions within the school, monitoring corridors and reviewing student IDs.
• Assist students in understanding and completing classroom assignments.
• Assist teachers in preparing bulletin boards and displaying students' work.
• Operates photocopying and duplicating machines to reproduce educational materials.
• Maintains orderly arrangement of classrooms.
• Greet and direct visitors to appropriate areas of the school.
• Consult with teachers regarding concerns of individual students.
• Operates audiovisual equipment such as cassette recorders, projectors, and photographs.
• Provides tutoring services to students under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
• Assist in collecting and grading homework and examination materials.
• Assist in supervising loading/unloading of students on school buses.
• Assist in receipts processing and insurance of new books.
