Arlington County's Juvenile and Domestic Relations (JDR) is seeking a Bilingual Administrative Assistant (English/Spanish) to join the Court Services Unit (CSU). This position provides services to an ethnically diverse population, some of whom may have limited English-speaking skills.
Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
- Receiving and directing calls to the appropriate staff or County agency as part of front-desk coverage;
- Processing the court arrival list daily;
- Greeting clients, their parents. and other professionals via phone, email and in-person;
- Screening and directing clients for intake services, providing forms, and explaining applicable fees;
- Providing administrative support to the Intake, Probation Units, Incentive, Safe Driving Programs, and other CSU staff;
- Handling daily administrative functions including creating adult and juvenile social files, filing, expunging of social files, sorting and delivering mail, data entry using SharePoint Excel, updating records in training database, processing court dockets and add-ons, maintaining office supplies, placing service calls for copier machine, dispersing and tracking of gift cards, bus tokens/metro cards, and completing other administrative tasks/special projects; and
- Maintaining professionalism and providing excellent customer service at all times.
The Successful Employee Will Possess The Following
- The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, and difficult clients; and
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of the requirements for graduation from a standard senior high school or vocational school, a GED certificate, or the equivalent;
- Some experience providing administrative support; and
Bilingual: Must be bilingual in English/Spanish.
Substitution: Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement.
Satisfactory completion of a certificate program from a recognized administrative training school or program may be substituted for up to six months of experience on a case-by-case basis.
Desirable Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following:
- Working in the court system;
- Working in Microsoft Word, SharePoint Excel, Adobe Acrobat; and/or
- Providing customer service to a diverse population.
Special Requirements
A pre-employment criminal record check will be conducted to include National Crime Information Center (NCIC) check, Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) background check, FBI fingerprints, and a Virginia Department of Social Services Child Protective Services Central Registry Search.
Bilingual: An assessment of verbal Spanish proficiency would be required before a candidate can be appointed to a bilingual position (English/Spanish). The incumbent in a bilingual position would receive the language pay premium on all hours worked and on paid leave hours.

Work hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
