Job summary

The University of Utah Campus Bike shop is seeking a part-time bicycle technician to service bicycles for staff, students, and departments. You will maintain schedules and records of maintenance and coordinate parts and materials as needed.

This role emphasizes customer service, workshop organization, and ability to work evenings or weekends as required. A valid Utah driver's license may be required; four years of relevant experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Four years relevant work experience in the applicable trades areas or equivalency.
• Demonstrated knowledge of national, state and local building codes and standards; ability to read wiring diagrams, blueprints, and be able to make mechanical sketches and drawings.
• Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.

• Assembling/disassembling bicycle.
• Wheel truing basics.
• Crank arm/ bottom bracket replacement.
• Change derailleurs.
• Headset overhaul.

• Limit screws adjustment (both derailleurs).
• Center brakes & disc brakes.
• Chain check, replacement.
• Basic hydraulic maintenance understanding.
• Refurbish bicycles for sale.
• Maintain inventory of workshop.
• Clean and organize workshop.
• Maintain schedule, coordinate delays and changes through calendar.
• May set up, take down, or assist with special event parking.

The incumbent may be required to work overtime hours during the evening, weekends and holidays as required. They must wear appropriate clothing or uniform, and be able to withstand a high stress environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years relevant work experience in the applicable trades areas or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); demonstrated knowledge of national, state and local building codes and standards; ability to read wiring diagrams, blueprints, and be able to make mechanical sketches and drawings; and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills required. Requires lifting and transporting heavy objects. A valid Utah Driver's license may be required.
