Job summary

North Slope Borough School District is seeking a Special Education teacher to implement research-based strategies, tailor instruction to individual students, and foster a classroom culture that supports learning across all grades including preschool.

The role demands collaboration with regular education staff, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to implement inclusive practices and maintain confidential student information, while meeting federal/state requirements and district

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education is required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Alaska Teacher Certificate with Special Education endorsement required.
• Three years of experience in education preferred.
• Inupiaq language, history & culture experience preferred.
• Experience with students with intensive needs preferred.
• Experience with visual impairment and braille preferred.

Responsibilities

• Strive for harmonious and cooperative interpersonal relationships with students, parents, supervisors, administrators, staff, and community members.
• Promote and support School District Goals as developed by the Board of Education.
• Coordinate participation in educational committees and organizations for professional growth.
• Develop awareness of local culture to provide bicultural or multicultural instruction.
• Maintain and update the special education program and student files; protect confidentiality.
• Follow federal and state laws and procedures for referrals, testing, program development, placement, and training.
• Complete paperwork using a web-based system under the Director of Student Services.
• Plan and conduct ESER/IEP meetings and implement IEPs with inclusion in regular education.
• Collaborate with related service providers and supervise paraprofessionals.
• Adhere to ethics and professional teaching standards; follow district policies.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Education

Master’s Degree (Preferred)

Alaska Teacher Certificate with Special Education Endorsement

Three years’ experience in education (Preferred)

Inupiaq Language, History & Culture experience (Preferred)

Experience with students with intensive needs (Preferred)
