Job summary

Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ, seeks an events beverage assistant to support the Beverage Operations Manager for facility rental events, special events, and internal events that require beverage services. You will assist with bar setup, service, and back-up support for bartenders.

Responsibilities include administering custom menus, inventory control, POS troubleshooting, and supervision of contracted bartenders.

Qualifications

• Two years' experience in food and beverage or related field.
• AZ Food Handlers card preferred; AZ DLLC Title 4 certification required; certification after hire if not present.
• Outstanding customer service skills.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Position Purpose

Provide support and assistance to the Beverage Operations Manager for facility rental events, special events, and internal events that require beverage services.

Essential Duties

• Assist, as necessary, with the organization and execution of bar set up and service for clients on day of event. Provide product and supplies for bars throughout duration of event and back up support for bartenders. Check bartenders out at the end of event; review pull sheet for accuracy and ensure products are put back in proper place.
• Provide administrative support, create custom menus, and control all internal products that are executed and returned from events.
• Observe and comply with all Arizona liquor laws and regulations.
• Assist with training of bartenders and follow Garden policies relating to beverage services.
• Understand and troubleshoot POS payment and equipment.
• Supervise contracted bartenders and act as liaison between the Garden and vendor in the absence of the Beverage Operations Manager.
• Provide assistance with quarterly inventory and related bookkeeping of all liquor and associated products; maintain organization of office.
• Assist with the coordination and execution of beverage services and sales at special events
• Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customer.

• Pay: $21.00/hour

Competencies

• Minimum of two years' experience in food and beverage industry or related field
• AZ Food Handlers card preferred. AZDLLC approved Title 4 certification required. If you do not have certification, you will be required to receive after hire.

• Ability to work off-hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Equipment Used

Typical office equipment and everything needed to successfully operate a bar.

Internal Communication

Frequent interaction with Garden employees, especially Event Services and Garden Site-Ops staff.

External Communication

Frequent interaction with visitors and guests.

Working Conditions

Some physical effort beyond what's typically required in a normal office environment. Potential for tight deadlines or time periods of high workload may require additional hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Must be able to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, see, hear, speak, read, and type. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds required. Must be able to operate a computerized POS system. During events, this role may work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
