Job summary

Urban Grid, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is seeking a Sr. Manager/Director, BESS Development to lead technical and commercial development of utility-scale battery energy storage projects across the development lifecycle.

You will work with Construction, Procurement, and Interconnection teams, define system architectures, evaluate proposals, and manage supplier relationships to ensure financeable, executable projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of direct utility-scale (projects >50 MW) BESS development, operations or sales experience.
• Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery technology, BESS system architecture, PCS, EMS, SCADA and interconnection.
• Experience with major battery OEMs and system integrators; evaluating proposals and negotiating terms.
• Experience supporting project finance due diligence and strong financial/commercial acumen.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
• Willingness to travel as needed for site visits and diligence.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical and commercial development of standalone and hybrid BESS projects from early-stage through construction start.
• Coordinate with Construction, Procurement, Interconnection and OEMs to optimize design and execution.
• Define system configurations (AC/DC, storage duration, sizing, topology) and EMS/SCADA interfaces.
• Lead supplier management, bid evaluations, and contract negotiations.
• Support interconnection studies and regulatory/compliance activities.
• Develop cost models and lifecycle cost analyses for projects.
