Job summary

Mercor seeks Bengali annotation specialists to build training data for Bengali and related scripts. You will annotate page regions, bound and classify, and transcribe Bengali text with character-level accuracy. Tasks involve multi-column layouts, handwriting, and dense content.

Open tasks, ensure quality, and undergo second expert review; you’ll flag unsuitable pages and maintain metadata for language, document type, and page dimensions. A steady, precise workflow is essential.

Qualifications

• Native Bengali speaker with full command of script and orthography
• Experience with document annotation, transcription, localization, or proofreading is preferred
• Character-level accuracy matters; a single wrong diacritic is a defect
• Systematic approach with consistent taxonomy across pages
• Comfort with unfamiliar layouts: multi-column layouts, handwritten forms

Responsibilities

• Open and check a task: ensure Bengali content and legibility before annotating
• Annotate structure: bound and classify page regions with type and reading order
• Record relationships: link regions to parent figures/tables
• Transcribe faithfully: reproduce Bengali text exactly, flag unreadable regions
• Capture page metadata: language, document type, source, dimensions, and handwriting flags
• Review a colleague's work: second Bengali expert review within the process
