Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) is seeking a Benefits Coordinator to manage day‑to‑day employee and retiree benefits, including health, dental, vision, and flexible spending programs. This in‑office role is based in Memphis, TN; remote work is not offered.

You will process enrollments, verify deductions, and collaborate with Payroll to ensure accuracy while supporting health and wellness initiatives and HR technology modernization. Strong communication and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in HR, business, or related field preferred; relevant experience may substitute.
• 3–5 years of HR experience with significant benefits administration.
• Knowledge of HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, ERISA, and ADA.
• Experience with benefit reconciliation, payroll deductions, and vendor systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high‑volume environment.
• Excellent customer service and ability to communicate complex benefit information.
• Experience with HRIS, payroll, benefits administration, or carrier systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Maintain confidentiality for sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day‑to‑day administration of employee and retiree benefit programs.
• Process enrollments, changes, terminations, and life events.
• Serve as primary resource for benefit eligibility and enrollment questions.
• Partner with Payroll to ensure accurate benefit deductions.
• Reconciling enrollment records, payroll deductions, and vendor invoices.
• Coordinate annual open enrollment activities and communications.
• Present benefit information during new hire orientation and monitor timely enrollment.
• Coordinate health and wellness programs and events.
• Collaborate with carriers, brokers, and vendors to maximize resources.
• Maintain accurate benefits data across systems and produce routine reports.
• Support HR technology implementations and data validation.
