Job summary

City of Myrtle Beach is seeking a Benefits Specialist to provide comprehensive benefits administration and communication support for employees and retirees. The role emphasizes outreach, vendor oversight, and on-site wellness program coordination.

You will handle enrollment, open enrollment events, retiree communications, and coordination with vendors while ensuring compliance with regulations. Two years of related benefits experience are desirable.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of benefits administration.
• Knowledge of risk management.
• Knowledge of customer service principles.
• Ability to communicate clearly with employees, retirees, and vendors.

Responsibilities

• Administers employee benefit programs, such as health, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, retirement, deferred compensation, unreimbursed medical and dependent care, COBRA, and other plans as required; files and mails employee forms; researches information; answers questions; and resolves problems.
• Maintains employee benefits/payroll data in automated HRIS; coordinates data transfers to vendors and payroll; prepares payment requests.
• Verifies employment information; reconciles insurance billings; assists in bi-weekly payroll processing.
• Supports broker management, including maintaining a benefits consultant performance scorecard.
• Coordinates with vendors on wellness incentive payments and annual employee benefit fairs.
• Assists with open enrollment, new hire orientations, and provides benefits information to eligible employees; prepares packets and enters enrollment data.
