The Benefits Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day administration and support of employee benefits programs, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a positive employee experience. This role serves as the primary point of contact for employee benefit inquiries, assists with enrollments, and oversees compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, etc.). The Benefits Specialist partners closely with the Benefits Manager and HR team to maintain accurate records, process life events, reconcile benefit invoices, and support key initiatives such as open enrollment and audits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Consults with employees on benefits inquiries, eligibility, claim issues and plan changes, including health and welfare benefits, and time off/leave of absence.
  • Monitor Benefits Department Mailbox
  • Process Qualifying Life Events in HRIS, accurately and timely.
  • Reconcile and process benefit invoices, accurately and timely.
  • Maintain accurate benefits records and other relevant information.
  • FSA and HSA Administration, including funding and periodic audits.
  • COBRA and QMCSO Administration.
  • Assist with annual Open Enrollment.
  • ACA Administration and Reporting.
  • Ensures legal compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and all other regulations as required by federal, state, and local laws.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 4-Year Degree Preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Benefits Specialist or in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and benefits software, preferably Dayforce.
