Job summary

Xcel Energy in Minneapolis is seeking a Benefits Administration & Retirement Operations Intern to gain hands-on experience supporting retirement and health & welfare benefit programs. You will assist with processing, reporting, vendor coordination, and data reviews alongside experienced benefits professionals.

The role provides exposure to systems like Workday and SAP while helping ensure accurate and timely delivery of benefits to employees, retirees, and beneficiaries. May 24, 2027 start date.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Management.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person per hybrid policy.
• Interest in employee benefits, retirement plans, HR operations, finance, and compliance.
• Experience using Excel functions, PivotTables, or data analysis tools.
• Detail-oriented and comfortable with data and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Assist with benefit administration activities by reviewing transactions, researching discrepancies, and helping maintain accurate participant records across multiple systems.
• Perform weekly and monthly reporting, data validation, and operational tracking for retirement and benefits programs.
• Partner with internal teams and external vendors to support retirement, health and welfare, and deferred compensation administration processes.
• Assist with payroll, trust, and funding reconciliation activities and help identify opportunities for process improvements.
• Document business processes and support special projects related to benefits operations, compliance, and participant experience.
