Job summary

State Center Community College District is seeking a Temporary Benefits Technician (Confidential) to support the District's health insurance benefits plans and workers' compensation program; located at the SCCCD District Office in Fresno, CA.

Under general supervision, you will assist with open enrollment, eligibility processing, communications to employees and retirees, and liaison with brokers and vendors. Strong accuracy and discretion are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED and at least two years of responsible experience performing administrative support for employee benefit plan administration and workers' compensation programs; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Knowledge of benefit program administration, including eligibility determination, enrollment, claims processing, benefits reporting and insurance/benefit plan recordkeeping.
• Familiarity with federal, state/local laws governing benefit plans and maintenance of employee records.
• Understanding of HIPAA, COBRA, and ACA requirements and proper handling of sensitive information.
• Ability to communicate clearly about benefits options, eligibility, and procedures; strong organizational and data-entry skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists Benefits Coordinator and HR staff by providing administrative support for health and life insurance benefit plans, long-term disability, and workers' compensation.
• Prepares and processes benefit eligibility information for employees and retirees; assists with open enrollment and explains plan options and enrollment procedures.
• Prepares and distributes benefits communications; explains IRS codes and regulatory requirements related to benefits; verifies eligibility and enrollment accuracy.
• Reviews billing statements, reconciles premium contributions with payroll deductions, and processes payments.
• Serves as liaison with external plan administrators to resolve benefits concerns and assist employees with claims, coverage, and eligibility issues.
