Job summary

UC Santa Cruz is seeking a Biology Teaching Laboratory Support Technician to support the laboratory and field teaching needs of the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department. The hybrid role serves as the divisional facilities representative on CSC and as primary lab staff for EEB teaching labs and field courses, coordinating equipment, safety training, and classroom operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in biology, chemistry, or related disciplines.
• Proficiency in lab skills: weighing and mixing chemicals, pH adjustment, sterilization, dispensing, sterile transfer, dilutions, and molarity calculations.
• Experience with genomic isolation methods, PCR, sequencing, qPCR, gene expression, population genetics and metagenomics.
• Experience maintaining and repairing laboratory equipment (balances, pH meters, centrifuges, microscopes, pipettors, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis).

Responsibilities

• Provide logistic and technical support for biology teaching labs and field courses.
• Coordinate facility operations for CSC, Coastal Biology Building and Seymour Marine Discovery Center.
• Manage inventories, equipment shipping, onboarding new faculty, and EH&S check-outs.
