Job summary

The University of California, Santa Cruz is seeking an Instructional Lab Coordinator to support the Undergraduate Teaching Labs in the Chemistry & Biochemistry department. This on-site position is based on the Santa Cruz campus and focuses on managing day-to-day lab operations, safety, and collaboration with faculty and teaching assistants.

Responsibilities include preparing materials and reagents, maintaining equipment, supervising student workers, and ensuring compliance with safety policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/training.
• Knowledge of chemistry and physics at bachelor level.
• Knowledge of lab safety and waste handling policies (EH&S).
• Knowledge of modern lab instrumentation and maintenance.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare materials and set up equipment for lab experiments in a timely, safe, and economical fashion.
• Prepare and standardize reagents and solutions.
• Interact with faculty and TAs to troubleshoot problems.
• Set up, test, calibrate and maintain lab instruments.
• Maintain supplies and reagent inventories.
• Train and oversee student employees and maintain records.
