Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting for a Behaviour & Pastoral Support Assistant to help students across Key Stages 3 and 4 in Durham. You will support learning inside and outside the classroom, assist with behaviour and engagement, and work closely with teaching and pastoral teams.

The role involves one-to-one and small group interventions, building positive relationships with young people, and supporting SEMH needs. Training and ongoing support are provided by Milk Education.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people or transferable skills from related roles.
  • Calm, patient and confident with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage students.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with behaviour, attendance and engagement.
  • Build positive relationships and act as a trusted adult.
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions.
  • Support SEMH needs and provide a calm learning environment.
  • Assist teachers during lessons, transitions and breaks.
  • Promote positive behaviour and school values.
  • Help students develop confidence and resilience.

Milk Education is working with a number of secondary schools across Durham to recruit confident, resilient and enthusiastic Behaviour & Pastoral Support Assistants. You'll play a vital role supporting students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

About the Role

As a Behaviour & Pastoral Support Assistant, you'll work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting students with behaviour, attendance and engagement.
  • Building positive relationships with young people and acting as a trusted adult.
  • Delivering one‑to‑one and small group interventions.
  • Supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Assisting teachers in creating a calm and positive learning environment.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and promoting the school’s values.
  • Helping students develop confidence, resilience and emotional regulation.
  • Supporting during breaktimes, transitions and throughout the school day where required.
