Job summary

Arc of Onondaga is seeking a compassionate Behavioral Support Specialist to join our Clinic Department. You’ll help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities build skills and independence through person-centered supports.

You’ll work with the Behavioral Intervention Specialist and teams to develop, implement, and monitor BSPs, ensuring compliance with regulations and human rights standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related Human Services field.
• At least one year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
• Training in Functional Behavior Assessment techniques, or willingness to complete required training.

Responsibilities

• Support the Behavioral Intervention Specialist in developing and implementing individualized Behavior Support Plans.
• Assist with gathering information and conducting assessments to better understand behavioral needs and identify appropriate supports.
• Apply Functional Behavior Assessment techniques to help identify the underlying factors contributing to behaviors.
• Monitor and support implementation of Behavior Support Plans across service settings.
• Participate as an active member of interdisciplinary and program planning teams.
• Help ensure behavioral and psychological services are appropriate, necessary, and aligned with each individual’s needs and goals.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of applicable regulations and requirements related to Behavior Support Plans, human rights, and restrictive/intrusive supports.
• Promote positive, respectful, and person-centered approaches to behavioral support.
• Maintain appropriate documentation and support compliance with agency and regulatory requirements.
• Advocate for the rights, dignity, choices, and well-being of the people we support.
