Job summary

Buffalo Hearing & Speech seeks a Behavioral Support Classroom Aide at our Sweet Home location in Amherst to support preschool children in special education classrooms. This full-time role runs Monday through Friday, 7:45am–2:45pm.

Responsibilities include assisting with developmentally appropriate lessons, reinforcing goals, and maintaining a safe, organized classroom. You will work with the classroom team, follow bus and meal procedures, and provide support across multiple classrooms as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience with children or in a classroom setting preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a classroom team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing age-appropriate lessons and activities.
• Work as a team member in classroom design and implementation.
• Implement and maintain behavioral support responsibilities (CPI).
• Follow policies related to behavior management and safety in the classroom.
• Maintain a healthy, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Escort children to and from classrooms as part of bus duty responsibilities.
• Distribute breakfast/lunch following NYSED, Health Department and OCFS guidelines.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Buffalo Hearing & Speech has an opening for a Behavioral Support Classroom Aide (BSA) at our Sweet Home location in Amherst working with preschool children in special education classrooms. This a full-time position working Monday - Friday, 7:45am - 2:45pm and includes working a 6-week summer program in July & August.The BSA is responsible for assisting with the management of the children and classroom environment. Duties will include but are not limited to organizing and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons and activities under the direction of the classroom teacher, reinforcing educational goals, attending to the individual needs of the children, and following busing and breakfast/lunch program procedures. The BSA is also responsible for providing support to multiple classrooms.Essential Functions:Assist the classroom team in the production and implementation of age-appropriate lessons and activitiesWork as a team member in the classroom design and implementationImplement and maintain behavioral support responsibilitiesFollow policies and procedures related to behavior management (CPI)Maintain a healthy, safe, and organized classroom environmentFollow the site specific policies and procedures related to bus duty to safely escort children to and from their classroomsFollow the site specific policies and procedures for the distribution of Breakfast/Lunch under the guidelines of NYSED, Health Department and OCFSStrictly follow the guidelines and codes of conduct for all BHSC staff, which includes all mandatory meetings, training and procedures as stated in the employee handbookAny other duty as requested by your supervisorMinimum Degree Required: High school diploma/ GEDMinimum Experience Required: Experience working with children, or in a classroom setting and/or working with children/adults with developmental delays/disabilitiesPhysical Requirements:Physical actions may include, but are not limited to; lifting, bending, kneeling, standing, squatting, reaching, sprinting, crawling, and running.Vision, speech, tactical and hearing senses adequate to perform job requirements.Frequent sitting/ standing and when appropriate, floor sitting with pediatric patients.
