Job summary

City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Behavior Specialist I to lead Direct Support activities in a residential setting for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The role focuses on implementing ISP, supporting daily living activities, and maintaining thorough documentation.

The position offers a $3,000 hiring bonus and a comprehensive benefits package. Applicants should meet the minimum education/experience requirements and hold a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• CNA certification preferred.
• Two or more years experience working with adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
• Two or more years experience administering medications.
• One or more years experience reviewing progress notes and writing quarterly reviews.
• Two (2) or more years experience supporting with activities of ADLs and IADLs.
• One (1) or more years experience utilizing electronic health records for documentation purposes.

Responsibilities

• Implement ISP for up to twelve participants.
• Assist with meal prep, hygiene, and activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Complete documentation to show progress toward goals within regulation deadlines.
• Review and provide feedback on documentation and hourly billing for Direct Support Professional IIs for accuracy and compliance.
• Sign and verify quarterly reviews in the electronic health record by the quarterly due date.
• Maintain health, safety, and well‑being of participants; manage behavioral and crisis situations using Therapeutic Options Techniques.
• Assist with scheduling medical appointments and ensure all related documentation is obtained and routed.
• Input into ongoing needs and resource identification; schedule and support community integration opportunities.
• Uphold participants' rights and HCBS rights; maintain confidentiality and rights protections.
• Monitor use of financial ledgers; review medication administration records; ensure medications are on-site and labeled.
• Conduct monthly inventory of supplies and perform household/grocery shopping; serve as procurement cardholder.
