Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Psychiatric Technician to support the Behavioral Health Unit in Newport, RI. You will work under the direction of the Registered Professional Nurse to provide direct care and ensure a safe, therapeutic milieu for adult patients.

You will participate in treatment planning, collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, document care, supervise activities, and assist with safety and crisis management as needed.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate in Psychology or related field or CNA license with experience working with the behavioral health population.
• Current CPR certification.
• Current Brown University Health Crisis Management certification or current enrollment.
• Ability to provide care to patients across the life span considering aging, development, and cultural patterns.
• Healthcare field experience is preferred.
• Work environment includes a general hospital setting with potential for stress and safety monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Actively participates in treatment planning with the Professional Nurse to develop the initial problem list and treatment plan.
• Communicates individual treatment plans with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Implements the treatment plan per unit policies and procedures and maintains therapeutic limits.
• Assists in evaluating care by providing input at team meetings.
• Documents patient/family interactions on flowsheet in a timely manner.
• Observes patients in activities of daily living and supports hygiene and safety.
• Establishes therapeutic relationships and encourages participation in activities and groups.
• Conducts patient rounds and reports unusual behavior to nursing staff.
• Manages aggressive/destructive behavior with timely therapeutic interventions.
• Assists with patient and room searches and maintains patient confidentiality.
