Job Description

This position is contingent on contract award.

International SOS seeks an experienced Behavioral Health Technician to support individuals with mental health and emotional challenges. The technician will assist in therapeutic activities, monitor patient behavior, and ensure a safe environment for recovery. Collaboration with healthcare professionals to implement treatment plans and promote patient well-being is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct or assist in treatment and rehabilitation, including assessments like psychological testing, clinical interviews, mental status exams, substance abuse evaluations, and nursing assessments.
  2. Identify mental health and nursing diagnoses and educate patients.
  3. Monitor, record, and report patient progress.
  4. Assist in counseling, therapeutic community, and milieu activities.
  5. Implement safety measures to prevent injury or suicide.
  6. Assist with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort needs.
  7. Record vital signs.
  8. Coordinate with agencies for care, treatment, and rehabilitation; contact military and community agencies for collateral information; explain services to patients.
  9. Refer patients to community agencies.
  10. Maintain records and reports related to services.
  11. Assist with care for patients experiencing acute or post-traumatic stress.
  12. Prepare treatment records and perform triage duties.
  13. Develop and implement goal-oriented care plans based on diagnoses and patient outcomes, prioritizing needs and resources.
  14. Evaluate self-care effectiveness and support patient progression toward outcomes.
  15. Provide discharge instructions and ongoing assessment.
  16. Ensure a safe, clean environment.
  17. Address patient learning needs and implement educational measures.
  18. Assist in planning with staff and ancillary personnel.
  19. Demonstrate knowledge and sound decision-making in patient care.
  20. Document care accurately and timely.
  21. Participate in staff development and seek validation of skills and knowledge.
  22. Implement care knowledgeably and consistently, establishing priorities based on patient needs and available resources.
  23. Administer medications safely, including IM, LAIs, oral, and SQ medications.
  24. Engage in self-directed learning and maintain professional communication.
  25. Build effective relationships with team members, patients, and families.
  26. Practice problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  27. Adapt staffing as needed and provide counseling and health education.
  28. Provide literature resources and support to patients and families.
  29. Participate in staff orientation, cross-training, and competency assessments.
  30. Review and update procedures and participate in quality improvement activities.
  31. Perform triage and assist in clinical procedures following protocols.
  32. Maintain productivity and participate in peer reviews and performance improvement.
  33. Practice infection control and safety procedures.
  34. Respond effectively in emergency situations and adhere to legal standards.
  35. Participate in Family Advocacy Program activities.
  36. Respect patient rights and maintain professional accountability.
  37. Engage in continuing education and comply with training requirements.
  38. Contribute to performance improvement and in-service training.
  39. Accurately document all patient care and operate automated systems as required.
  40. Exercise appropriate clinical delegation and maintain comprehensive records.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

  • At least one year of recent experience as a Behavioral Health Technician in inpatient/outpatient settings.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic health records.

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program or equivalent education/experience meeting the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians standards, or military/civilian training in psychiatric care.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work typically performed in an interior/office environment.
  • Prolonged sitting and standing.
  • Bending, stooping, and lifting up to 15 lbs.

Other Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Subject to background checks and medical screening.

Additional Information
