Job Description

This position is contingent on contract award.

International SOS is looking for an experienced Behavioral Health Technician to provide direct support to individuals with mental health and emotional challenges by assisting in therapeutic activities, monitoring patient behavior, and ensuring a safe and conducive environment for recovery. They collaborate with healthcare professionals to implement treatment plans and promote the overall well-being of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct or assist in treatment and rehabilitation of patients. Perform initial basic assessment procedures including standardized psychological testing, clinical interviewing, mental status examinations, substance abuse evaluations, and psychological and nursing assessment.
  • Identify mental health and nursing diagnoses and provide patient education.
  • Observe, monitor, record, and report patient's progress.
  • Conduct or assist in conducting group and individual counseling, therapeutic community, and other related milieu activities.
  • Institute precautionary measures to prevent patient injury or suicide.
  • Assist patients with nutritional, hygiene, and comfort measures.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Coordinate with other agencies regarding specified care, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and administrative functions. Contact military and community agencies to obtain collateral information. Explain and interpret mental health services to patients or others.
  • Assist in, or arrange patient referral to public, private, and military community agencies.
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports pertaining to specialty services.
  • Assist with care of individuals experiencing acute and post-traumatic stress reactions.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment records.
  • Assess each patient and perform triage duties as assigned.
  • Formulate and carry out a goal directed plan of care based on licensed independent practitioner diagnoses and patient outcomes, prioritized according to patient needs and resources.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of patient self-care and ensure clinical care supports patient progression toward outcomes.
  • Provide treatment and discharge instructions upon patient release.
  • Perform systematic assessment/data collection, focusing on physiological and cognitive status.
  • Provide a safe and clean environment for each patient.
  • Identify learning needs of patients/significant others and implement measures to meet those needs.
  • Assist in planning with ancillary and staff personnel.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and sound decision-making in patient care situations.
  • Perform accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
  • Participate in staff development and peer review activities.
  • Practice aseptic techniques and infection control guidelines.
  • Respond effectively in emergency patient situations following protocols.
  • Apply legal and ethical standards in patient care.
  • Participate in Family Advocacy Program activities as directed.
  • Respect patient/significant others' rights and ensure professional accountability.
  • Engage in continuing education and in-service training.
  • Attend meetings and contribute to performance improvement efforts.
  • Operate automated healthcare systems and maintain proper documentation.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately within the healthcare team.
  • Maintain all treatment records in accordance with directives.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements/Certifications
  • Minimum of one year recent experience as a Behavioral Health Technician in an outpatient/inpatient setting.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and electronic health records.
Education
  • Graduation from an accredited Psychiatric Technician Program or equivalent education and experience meeting the American Association of Psychiatric Technicians standards, or military/civilian training in psychiatric care.
Physical Requirements
  • Work predominantly in an indoor environment.
  • Sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 15 lbs.
Other Qualifications
  • US Citizenship.
  • Subject to security background checks and medical screening.
Additional Information

Salary range: $53,745 - $59,120. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401k, paid time off, and annual bonus. International SOS is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable laws.
