Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for conducting functional analyses of patient behavior, participating as a member of the treatment team, contributing to the Master Treatment Plan, and implementing appropriate interventions. The Behavioral Health Technician conducts individual and group psycho-education, leisure activities, life-skill training, and coaching for all patients. The Technician is also responsible for safety monitoring of patients and the unit.

Essential Functions
  • Observe and monitor patient’s status according to standards, policies, and procedures, including vital signs, weight, intake/output, dietary intake, behavioral rounds, and notes. Report concerns promptly.
  • Provide verbal and written updates to nursing staff to prioritize patient care.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in patient care, including orientation, transport, de-escalation, teaching coping skills, conflict resolution, assisting with activities of daily living, and responding to codes using CPI techniques.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to interventions; report changes to the nurse.
  • Co-lead psycho-educational groups and ensure active treatment on the unit, encouraging patient participation.
  • Provide timely information on patient behaviors and progress to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Serve in supervisory or lead roles as requested.
  • Maintain professional development, including BLS and CPI certifications.
  • Conduct individual Life Coaching, Psycho-education, and Supportive Counseling aligned with Treatment Plan goals.
  • Lead or co-lead group therapy sessions on leisure, life skills, and psycho-education.
  • Manage acute behavioral episodes using approved de-escalation techniques like CPI.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications: BLS Certification, CPI certification/training.

Experience: 1 year in a psychiatric inpatient setting.
