Job description

Job Opening: Full-Time Patient Care Technician, Senior at UPMC Williamsport

Position Details:

  • 36 hours per week, Night shifts
  • Every other weekend and holiday work required
  • Eligible candidates with over 6 months of relevant experience may join the Night Program, earning an additional $2/hour on night shifts

Note: Final candidates will be placed at a level within the career ladder based on education, experience, and managerial discretion at the time of offer.

Responsibilities:
  1. Support and suggest improvements within the department; view problems as challenges; contribute to department projects and quality initiatives.
  2. Receive feedback constructively; identify learning needs; seek assistance for planning and prioritizing; participate in self-review, projects, and committees.
  3. Adhere to all policies related to patient care and hospital information; follow safety policies; document appropriately; perform timely work including transporting cardiac patients, inserting Foley catheters, performing IV procedures, and clerical tasks.
  4. Provide patient care including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living; support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies; report patient status changes; instruct patients and families under RN supervision; apply and remove restraints as needed.
  5. Report equipment malfunctions; communicate effectively with departments; build professional relationships; contribute to unit activities like responding to call lights and transporting patients.
  6. Communicate clearly with healthcare team; understand cultural diversity; promote safety; develop productive relationships; demonstrate accountability and enthusiasm.
  7. Perform core nursing assistant duties including ADLs, point of care testing, vital signs, telemetry, and specimen collection; achieve all standard competencies.
  8. Assist with therapies; provide feedback to RN; report patient status; instruct patients and families; apply and remove restraints as per protocol.
  9. Report equipment issues; communicate effectively; maintain respectful relationships; participate in routine unit activities.
  10. Maintain all required competencies including basic arrythmia, wound care, 12-lead EKGs, NG tube management, and other advanced skills based on department needs.
