Job summary

SUN Behavioral Delaware is seeking a Mental Health Technician (MHT) to provide direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of the RN/LPN. You will monitor vital signs, observe behavior and mental status, and assist with de-escalation and safety procedures in a psychiatric setting.

The role emphasizes documentation, teamwork, and compassionate support. CPR and CPI de-escalation training are required; CNA certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• CPR and de-escalation technique certification required.
• Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
• May substitute experience for education.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of an RN or LPN/LVN.
• Performs and records patient vital signs and intake/output; notifies RN of changes.
• Continuously observes patients' behavior, mental status and activities; notifies RN of changes.
• Identifies behaviors requiring intervention and participates in treatment team meetings.
• Escorts patients for activities, meals, visitation, and tests; supports safety checks.
• Assists with restraint under RN direction and CPI techniques per policy.
• Documents per current standards and policies, uses EHR.
• Orients patients to unit and records admission vitals.
• Performs 15-minute observation rounds and documents.
• Assists in orientation of new staff and therapeutic groups.
• Provides one-on-one observation for high-risk patients and assists with ADLs.
