Job summary

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Katy is seeking a compassionate Behavioral Health Technician to support nursing staff in delivering compassionate care to adults and seniors with anxiety, depression and other mental health conditions. You will assist with routine patient care activities, monitor safety, and help maintain a therapeutic environment in a hospital setting.

The role requires reading and following instructions, strong communication, and the ability to work with diverse populations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required, unless hired in certain states.
• Current CNA certification or at least 6 months of direct patient care experience preferred.
• Must read, write and follow verbal and written instruction.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must work well with diverse populations.
• Must use age, disability and cultural knowledge in communicating with clients.
• Must be in good physical and mental health with integrity.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and support unit rules to maintain a therapeutic milieu.
• Use de-escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
• Inventory patient belongings and perform safety checks.
• Follow infection control policies and attend required in-services.
• Perform vital signs, weights, ADL, nutritional monitoring and report findings to the nurse.
• Assist with laundry, meals, bathroom functions and mobility.
• Individualize care to age, disability and cultural needs of patients.
• Document patient observations and nutritional intake clearly.
• Communicate task outcomes and follow-up needs to nursing staff.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
