Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience with seriously mentally ill adults in inpatient settings.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention strategies and behavior management techniques.

Job Opportunity: Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)

Location: Phoenix, AZ
Schedule: Rotational shifts, including weekends and holidays
Employment Type: Contract/Registry

About the Role
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) to provide specialized care, treatment, and security to patients and residents at a State Hospital in Arizona. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment while working with individuals experiencing serious mental health conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 care, treatment, and supervision to patients.
  • Observe, interact, and guide patients while modeling appropriate behaviors.
  • Respond to behavioral incidents, including physical interventions when necessary.
  • Assist in behavior management emergency procedures for violent or suicidal patients.
  • Co-lead life skills and therapeutic groups.
  • Escort and supervise patients during visitations, meals, and off-unit activities.
  • Assist with daily living activities, including hygiene and nutrition.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions and incidents.
  • Conduct room inspections and assist in contraband searches.
  • Enforce hospital policies and procedures to ensure safety and compliance.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with seriously mentally ill (SMI) adults in inpatient psychiatric or forensic mental health settings.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Crisis intervention strategies
  • Human behavior and communication dynamics
  • Behavior management techniques
  • Facility policies and procedures for behavioral interventions
  • Ability to:
  • Observe and interpret behaviors in psychiatric patients
  • Implement treatment plans effectively
  • Follow verbal and written directives from supervisory staff

Certifications & Clearances Required:

  • High school diploma/GED (or higher education as required)
  • Valid CPR certification (American Heart Association standard)
  • Valid CPI Blue Card (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills)
  • Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card (Arizona DPS)
  • Negative TB screening (within the last 12 months)
