Job summary

Community Counseling Center in Cape Girardeau, MO seeks a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to support client safety and well-being, assist with skill-building, and participate in groups and activities. You will help maintain a therapeutic environment and respond to crises according to policy.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, preference for 2 years in healthcare or related fields, and MO Class E driver’s license with proof of auto insurance.

Job description

Pay: $17.38 - $19.78/hour + shift differentials

Location: Cape Girardeau, MO

Shift differentials: +$0.50/hour for evening shift; +$1.00/hour for overnight shift.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED/HSE required.
  • Preference for those with at least two years of experience in Healthcare or Mental Health field or an undergraduate degree.
  • Must hold or obtain by start date, MO Class E Driver's License (Class D for IL Residents) and proof of continuous auto insurance. Must also meet CCC's Motor Vehicle Record standards policy and have reliable transportation.

Your Job as a Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)*

As a BHT you are responsible for the oversight of the clients' safety and mental well‑being as well as the physical plant facilities. This includes assisting clients with skill building, participating in groups and social activities, and intervening in crisis situations when needed. To be successful, you must have strong communication skills, model behavior to clients, and promote client‑centered treatment.

Essential Functions
  • Provide care to clients in a manner that promotes safety, comfort, and a therapeutic environment based on a trauma‑informed approach.
  • Promote and educate clients regarding activities of daily living including household management and self‑care tasks and responsibilities.
  • Teach functional living skills such as anger management techniques, impulse control, social/communication skills, relaxation skills, and emotional coping skills based on the client’s individual treatment plan.
  • Collaborate closely with the treatment team to coordinate client care services.
  • Complete and chart client observations in accordance with agency policy and procedure.
  • Conduct ongoing checks, including personal belongings, room checks, and grounds checks based on agency policy and procedure.
  • Ensure protective oversight of clients, monitor their condition, and follow agency policy and procedure regarding medical emergencies or elopement.
  • Transport clients to and from appointments as needed and appropriate.
  • Intervene in behavioral health crisis situations when needed.
  • Distribute medications and document such based on agency policy and procedure. Immediately report medication errors based on agency protocol.
  • Document according to clinical policies and procedures, DMH, CARF, and any other federal or state program per agency standards.
