Job summary

UMMC seeks a Patient Care Technician for the Adult Behavioral Health Unit on the Main Campus in Jackson. The role provides direct patient care under RN supervision, including vital signs, hygiene, mobility, and comfort measures, within a 24/7 behavioral health setting.

The PCT will support clinical staff, perform point-of-care testing, maintain records in the EHR, and assist with transportation and specimen collection as needed. Full-time position with patient-centered care focus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus one of the listed care-experience options.
• Two years of direct patient care in a hospital setting.
• Completion of MS Department of Health approved Nursing Aide program.
• CNA certification by MS Department of Health.
• Completion of UMMC Student Nurse Externship or PCT training program.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate patient care and emotional support to patients and families.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding, mobility).
• Measure, record, and report vital signs and changes to the nurse or healthcare team.
• Perform basic patient care procedures per established policies and competencies.
• Collect and transport specimens as needed.
• Assist with patient transport for tests, procedures, and transfers.
• Support clinical staff with procedures and patient care activities.
• Perform point-of-care testing and other assigned duties as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records.
• Respond to call lights and communicate patient needs to the team.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized patient environment and infection control.
• Assist with unit operations, stocking supplies, inventory, and clerical tasks.
