Job summary

St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO is seeking a Behavioral Health Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide hands-on, compassionate care for patients with acute mental health needs in an inpatient unit.

You'll work 12-hour day shifts (7:00 am – 7:00 pm) alongside RNs and an interdisciplinary team to promote safety, stabilization, and recovery, including medication administration, monitoring, behavioral observation, crisis intervention, and care coordination.

Qualifications

• A current and valid state license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Psychiatric Technician.
• A current BLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain it current.
• IV certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients with acute mental and behavioral health needs in an inpatient setting
• Observe, monitor, and document patient behavior, mental status, and safety risks
• Administer medications as ordered and monitor for side effects
• Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation to promote unit safety
• Support admissions, discharges, and transfers, including patient education
• Collaborate with RNs, providers, and the interdisciplinary care team
• Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation per policy and regulations
