Job summary

The Hartford is seeking a Behavioral Health Case Manager (CT08IE) to join our disability claims team. You will evaluate claimant functionality, advise on complex cases, and coordinate with multidisciplinary partners to optimize return-to-work outcomes.

Qualified candidates hold a Master’s degree in behavioral health, relevant state licensure, and demonstrated experience in case management and crisis intervention. Strong MS Office skills and independent practice licensure are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice after a master’s degree.
• Master’s Degree required in a behavioral health or mental health discipline.
• Licensure to practice independently required (LMHC, LCSW, LMFT, LPC or similar).
• Preference for case management and discharge experience.
• Preference for managed care / utilization review experience.
• Preference for crisis intervention skills.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to assess and explain complex medical conditions.
• Ability to communicate with attending physicians about limitations.
• Strong documentation and analytical skills.
• Sound judgement and willingness to learn about insurance business.

Responsibilities

• Conducts comprehensive evaluation of a disability claimant functionality.
• Advises on highly complex claims at multidisciplinary rounds to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Determines when claims have quality of care issues and escalates these through established channels.
• Independently conferences with treating providers to evaluate clinical symptomology.
• Leverages resources such as vocational rehabilitation, risk management, physician reviews, home assessments, etc.
• Manages risk and resources on highly complex behavioral health claims.
• Identifies return to work options and/or barriers with internal resources for smooth transition back to employability.
• Reviews clinical integration systems and determines appropriate referral resources.
• Supports leadership by understanding customer needs and ensuring performance objectives are met.
• Ensures documentation clearly communicates focus of functionality vs impairment.
• Collaborates with Ability Benefits Manager and others for proactive resolution of claims.
• Manages Short Term Disability (STD) to Long Term Disability (LTD) transition on behavioral health claims.
