Job summary

Prime Healthcare Services' Saint John Hospital in Leavenworth, KS, seeks a Behavioral Health CNA to support patients with mental health needs. The role involves 12-hour days (0700–1900) on a full-time schedule (36 hours/week) with a sign-on bonus for qualified candidates.

You will assist with daily activities, monitor behavior, de-escalate agitation, document vitals, and collaborate with the care team to maintain a safe, supportive environment.

Qualifications

• CNA certification required at hire.
• BLS certification required at hire.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Minimum six months’ acute care hospital or physician’s office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily activities: bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, and ambulation.
• Monitor changes in behavior, mood, or physical condition; observe for agitation, self-harm, or aggression.
• Help maintain a safe, structured environment and use de-escalation techniques to calm distressed patients.
• Accurately document behavior, interventions, and vital signs; communicate with the care team.
• Encourage participation in group activities or therapy; provide emotional support and build trust with patients.
• Assist with cleaning and stocking patient rooms and ensuring equipment is available.

We are seeking a Behavioral Health CNA, also referred to as a Psychiatric Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Mental Health CNA. A Behavioral Health CNA or Mental Health CNA provides care for patients with mental health or behavioral challenges by assisting with daily activities, monitoring behaviors, and promoting a safe, supportive environment. They collaborate with the healthcare team to offer emotional support, identify changes in patient condition, and assist in de-escalating potentially critical situations.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with daily activities: bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, and ambulation

Qualifications

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant certificate upon hire, required
• Current BLS upon hire and maintain current
• Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology
• Minimum six months’ previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician’s office preferred
