Job description

Work Location : This is a remote position based in Texas. The manager prefers candidates near Austin or San Antonio but is open to applicants from Dallas / Fort Worth area. Candidates in NM are also considered if necessary.

Contract : 2025-05-19 to 2025-12-31

Description :

This position involves working 100% on a clinical queue staffed solely with behavioral health clinicians. These clinicians make clinical decisions to approve treatment requests or send cases for peer review. They handle incoming calls from providers requesting authorization. Occasionally, a member in crisis is routed to the queue, and the clinician will assist the member through their crisis.

• If you are an RN with behavioral health experience, you must have a combination of MCO UM experience and direct care experience.
• You must be licensed to practice independently for this role. The required clinical experience is measured post-licensure at the independent level.

JOB SUMMARY :

This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely clinical review of behavioral health cases for medical necessity, including assisting members over the phone, reviewing medical records, and interpreting behavioral health diagnoses in accordance with contract and medical necessity criteria. The review covers all levels of behavioral health care, from outpatient visits to inpatient care.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

• Masters-level Behavioral Health Professional (LPC, LMFT, LCSW, LCPC, RPsy) with a current license to practice independently OR a Registered Nurse (RN) with behavioral health experience.
• Current clinical license in the state of operation and in good standing.
• At least 3 years of clinical experience (post-licensure at the independent practice level) in a psychiatric setting or own behavioral health practice.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency with PC and database systems.
