Job summary

Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center, part of NYC Health + Hospitals, is seeking a Nurse Aide to support behavioral health patients under the supervision of licensed staff. You will help with daily living activities, monitor patients, and participate in treatment programs within a therapeutic ward environment.

The position requires a high school diploma, completion of NYC Health + Hospitals restraints/seclusion training, vital signs training within 90 days, and BLS certification within 60

Qualifications

• High school diploma or its educational equivalent.
• Successful completion of NYC Health + Hospitals training program in the application and use of restraints and seclusion prior to performing such work.
• Successful completion of NYC Health + Hospitals training in the performance of vital signs and grooming within ninety (90) calendar days of appointment to the title.
• Holds or obtains a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association within sixty (60) calendar days of appointment to the title.

Responsibilities

• Assists patients with activities of daily living and personal hygiene as part of a health care team.
• Observes patient condition, mental state and social behavior and reports findings to the nurse or team leader.
• Assists in planning and implementing daily living activities and therapeutic ward activities.
• Provides care such as bathing, grooming, feeding assistance, and comfort measures under supervision.
• Assists with restraints or seclusion under supervision as directed by nursing staff when necessary and safe.
• Takes patient vital signs as directed and records data in the electronic medical record.
• Maintains a clean, orderly ward environment and assists with nursing routines.
