Job summary

SUN Behavioral Health in Houston is seeking an Admissions Clerk to arrange efficient admissions for inpatient and outpatient programs, collect patient information, explain policies, and pre-register patients. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• CPR and de-escalation certification required.
• Associates degree in Science preferred.
• One year of experience in a behavioral health setting.
• Ability to interview patients and collect admission information.

Responsibilities

• Accept admissions for hospital services and coordinate referrals from physician offices, ERs, and community sources.
• Pre-register patients for scheduled admissions and outpatient programs and verify insurance eligibility.
• Interview patients or representatives to obtain personal information and confirm details on file.
• Obtain signatures on admission forms and initiate advance directive process; communicate with nursing when advance directive is unavailable.
• Provide information on complaint process, patient rights, HIPAA, and visiting hours; distribute hospital literature.
• Handle patient valuables securely and coordinate with Business Office on financial arrangements when needed.
• Refer patients to the Business Office for financial discussions and maintain clear, professional communication with staff and physicians.
• Support safety, quality, and teamwork through compliance with policies and ongoing CQI efforts.
