Job summary

Gersh Autism is seeking a compassionate Behavior Technician (Paraprofessional) to support students with autism in a West Hempstead, NY school setting. You will work under the supervision of teachers and behavior analysts to implement IEPs and BIPs, and help students develop communication, social, and self-management skills.

This 12-month, Monday–Friday role runs 8:00 AM–3:30 PM (with one 4:00 PM team meeting per week) and offers full-time benefits, training, and opportunities to pursue RBT

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associate's degree or higher preferred in education or related field.
• Experience with children, especially with autism, is a plus but not required.
• Willingness to pursue RBT certification within the specified timeframe.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support for academic, social, and behavioral growth.
• Help students with daily tasks including communication and self-management.
• Prepare materials and assist with daily transitions and clothing/storage needs.
• Support students during classroom activities, field trips, and other events.
• Apply strategies from behavior intervention plans to promote self-regulation.
• Collect and document data on student performance and progress toward goals.
• Collaborate with teachers and behavioral specialists to maintain a positive learning environment.
• Communicate progress and challenges with school staff.
• Participate in daily training sessions with behavioral analysts and professional development.
