Job summary

Academy for Young Minds (AYM), powered by Gersh, seeks a Behavior Technician to support students with autism in a 5-15 year-old classroom in Long Island City, Queens. This full-time, 12-month position focuses on academic and behavioral goals within a structured school environment.

Responsibilities include implementing IEPs/BIPs, providing individualized support, data collection, and collaboration with the behavior team to promote positive student outcomes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher in education, psychology, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with children, especially those with autism or special needs, is a plus.
• A passion for supporting students with autism and other developmental disabilities.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) within the specified time frame.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEPs and BIPs for students with autism.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students.
• Help students with daily tasks, including communication and social interaction.
• Prepare students and materials for activities and transitions.
• Support classroom activities, field trips, and events.
• Collect and document data on student performance and progress toward goals.
• Collaborate with teachers and behavioral specialists to create a positive learning environment.
• Communicate progress with teachers and staff.
• Participate in daily training sessions with behavioral analysts.
