Harford County Public Schools is seeking a Behavioral Technician at Joppatowne Elementary School to assist staff with instructional programs and support students with behavioral needs.

The role involves monitoring behavior, implementing de-escalation strategies, documenting progress, and collaborating with teachers, psychologists, and social workers. A high school diploma and additional qualifications are required, with a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or higher required.
  • AA degree or 60 college credits preferred.
  • Alternative: pass ParaPro assessment with 455+ or 15 credits or 1.5 years related experience.
  • Completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Basic technology skills expected.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors student behavior and implements behavior strategies.
  • Responds to behavioral crises per school protocols and with staff support.
  • Uses de-escalation techniques to manage crises.
  • Supports implementation of behavioral components of IEPs.
  • Documents day-to-day progress in Behavior Intervention Plan data.
